The following post is from where I actually write... when I get a chance to write every month or so. With "pulse" and a certain someone's "pulsemonkey", I may or may not be around a little bit more in the future. Of course, it looks like, with "themes" especially, Xanga might be going away from blogging and more towards a myspace experience.
Anyway, as always, you can click on the link on http://www.xanga.com/namaste to send me an e-mail and I will almost certainly invite you to "the new place". In my abundant leisure time, I might get this place up and running again, too. I'm cross-posting here to see if anyone has used either netflix or blockbuster online and their experiences with either.
Thank you, good night!
(p.s. Love y'all, as well)
********************************
With the theatre buttoned up for approximately four weeks, I have a little bit more free time.
One
of the many things on Mrs. Z's list to check out was Netflix. I have
been interested in it myself, but I am not honestly sure that we have
the time to make it worthwhile.
As is my habit when I don't
really feel like cooking (and, honestly, don't have much in the house
to cook), I click on to the papajohns website. Any place that will
allow you to order food online already gets major points in my book.
Of
course, Papa Johns is offering a deal for "Blockbuster Online"...
Blockbuster's version of Netflix. Keeping in mind that I don't go to
Blockbuster because of one SIGNIFICANTLY bad experience when I first
moved down to my island (and the fact that their only location is
really inconvenient for me and their store is kept in disarray and
dirty...), I didn't really care about the offer.
But, hey,
both Blockbuster Online (henceforth: bbo) and Netflix (nf) both offer a
"free" two week trial. I figured I am falling extremely behind on
movies I really want to watch (but don't want to pay for and own) that
it was worth trying one of them out.
Since Mrs. Z wanted to
try the experience out anyway, I thought I would give it a shot. Sadly,
she fell asleep before I selected the first movies to deliver to the
house, so she won't have input for a while.
First
impressions: Netflix wins on price. They are roughly five bucks a month
cheaper for (as far as I can tell) the same service. Having just signed
up to both an hour or two ago, I can't say much more. Maybe the five
bucks extra will be to get the movies quicker. We'll see.
The
one area that bbo is better than nf is in the navigation of their
respective websites. bbo always seemed to allow me to get back to where
I was, without hitting the "back" button on my webbrowser.
As
far as recommendations go, I think nf wins. I think nf gave me more
(and better) recommendations, but switching back and forth between the
two, I honestly can't remember completely.
What NEITHER bbo nor nf seemed to offer (on first glance, of course), were options for multiple profiles in one account. For example, there is a husband, wife and son living in my house (hint: I'm not the wife and I'm not the son). However, both of them, I am sure would like to get recommendations, as well. It seems like a poor implementation of the program that only I could find out about new movies that I might like. Did I miss a button somewhere (on both programs)? If so, it should be a much more obvious button.
Suprisingly, nf
had a deeper selection (as far as I could tell) than bbo did. Again, it
is unscientific and not objective at all, but I would be interested to
hear what any of y'all have experienced with either of these companies.
(p.s. I'm cross-posting to Xanga for the first time in years!)
